Supercrawl Reveals 2018 Music Lineup

Marking the festival’s landmark tenth anniversary season, Supercrawl organizers today unveiled the sprawling musical lineup for the free festival component of Supercrawl 2018, which will take place September 13-16, 2018 along James Street North in downtown Hamilton, Ontario, and presented by TD Canada.

The special lineup reveal took place at Thunder Alley, a subterranean bowling and entertainment complex steps from the heart of Supercrawl’s festival corridor. As part of the evening’s festivities, attendees enjoyed a blitzkrieg live set from JUNO-winning local punk trio The Dirty Nil, a pop-up fashion showcase from Blackbird Studios as well as hospitality from festival food and drink regulars Jonny Blonde and Collective Arts Brewing.

Supercrawl’s Festival Director Tim Potocic previewed the coming festival season for those in attendance. This year’s edition of Supercrawl promises to be not only a solid lineup of musical performances but also a recap of the festival’s first decade, with several past headliners making encore appearances alongside dynamic new acts and emerging talents. It’s arguably the most expansive roster of talent the festival has ever showcased, including local, regional, national and international talents — more than 60 in all.

“Our 10-year anniversary is a milestone we are very proud to achieve, and we’re prouder still that local artists and musicians have been such a key part of that since the outset,” Potocic said. “It was a pleasure to plan this year’s anniversary event and we hope that the community and audiences from across Canada come out to be a part of the celebrations.”

Headliners at Supercrawl 2018, the festival’s tenth annual edition, will include Lights, Wintersleep, Owen Pallett, Cadence Weapon, The Dirty Nil, and Elliott Brood.

Other musical artists announced today include (in alphabetical order) Basement Revolver, Bonjay, Buddah Abusah, Canadian Winter, Ben Caplan, Cootes Paradise, William Crighton, CrybabyDuchess Says, John Ellison, The Elwins, Jeremy Fisher Junior, The Fuddles, Hamilton Blues All-Stars (featuring Rita Chiarelli, Tim Gibbons, Darcy Hepner, Harrison Kennedy, Jesse O’Brien, Brant Parker, Alfie Smith, Steve Strongman, and Trickbag), Hamilton Children’s Choir, Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra with The Altobeelays, Hamilton Youth Steel Orchestra, Hollerado, Iskwé, The Kents, King Park, Language Arts, Lava Dolls, Lone Rhu, Shanika Maria, Mississippi Bends, Mount Farewell, Willie Nile, Nyssa, Lindi Ortega, The Pack A.D., Partner, Fred Penner & The Cat’s Meow, PoesyRexford Drive, Royal SeasShade, Slowcoaches, SUUNS, Ian Thomas, Michelle TitianWeaves, and Sam Weber.

Potocic also announced an exciting expansion of Supercrawl’s music programming, with the massive weekend of arts and music kicking off early this year on the festival’s south stage (King & James) on the evening of Thursday, September 13, with a limited activation of the section of James between King & York/Wilson. Special performers for that night will be unveiled in July.

Mid-July brings a lineup announcement for Supercrawl’s third annual collaboration with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on the Labour Day Classic Concert in the South Plaza of Tim Hortons Field. The free and accessible event, taking place Monday, September 3, kicks off the iconic sports event but also the start of Supercrawl’s festival week.

In partnership with the Hamilton Fringe Festival, Supercrawl will be hosting an additional live music preview Friday, July 27 at Fringe Club (Gore Park) and announcing the festival’s Fashion and Theatre lineups Thursday, July 26 at the same venue, a slate of free and accessible programming that offers another preview of the September festival.

In addition to the on-street music featured at Supercrawl 2018, Supercrawl will again be collaborating with partner venues to program even more great music in the week leading up to Supercrawl, as well as the festival weekend itself.

Further lineup reveals (such as art, fashion, theatre, vendors, food trucks, family, spectacle, talks and after-parties) as well as schedule information will follow in the weeks leading up to the festival. Stay tuned!
