Anitra Hamilton

Anitra Hamilton’s Cock Robin stems from a series of collages comprising images of various birds perched on the detonating pins of Danish World War II hand grenades. The title comes from a literary murder archetype in the form of a nursery rhyme: Who Killed Cock Robin? The work explores the human history of violence while embodying our capacity to both create and destroy. Anitra Hamilton is a Canadian-born artist. Her works have been presented in Havana, Shanghai, Greece, Morocco, and across North America, and appear in the permanent collections of the Albright-Knox Gallery and the AGO. She is the past recipient of numerous grants and awards including the Toronto Friends of the Visual Arts Award and two Chalmers Fellowships. She has upcoming projects in Denmark, Italy, Slovenia, Greece and Canada.
