SUPERCRAWL NAMED TOURISM EVENT OF THE YEAR

Hamilton’s Supercrawl festival is a success story of explosive grassroots growth in a city tapping into the creative energy of its arts sector — and it’s not just locals taking notice. On November 10, 2015, the closing night of this year’s Ontario Tourism Summit, Supercrawl was honoured to receive the 2015 Ontario Tourism Award of Excellence for Tourism Event of the Year. The award is sponsored by the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario. “From the outset, Supercrawl has always promoted local artists, businesses and neighbourhoods far beyond the city’s borders, so this distinction is a reflection on them as much…

SUPERCRAWL OFFERS A FEAST OF FOOD OPTIONS

Supercrawl — Hamilton’s annual celebration of music, art, fashion and culture — can be counted on to roll out an ambitious range of free programming that is embraced by audiences. Last year’s festival drew record crowds to James Street North, where they soaked up the sights, sounds, smells and (of course) flavours on offer. This year, alongside heavyweight musical headliners like Monster Truck, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, and Daniel Lanois, Supercrawl organizers are pleased to welcome the festival’s largest and most diverse array of food vendors to date: Roughly 40 food trucks and carts will span four city blocks.…

GETTING TO SUPERCRAWL

GETTING TO SUPERCRAWL

An estimated 165,000 people came out to last year’s Supercrawl to enjoy a weekend of music, art, fashion, food, street vendors and circus spectacle, so it’s a good idea to anticipate a crowd for this year’s festival (Sept 11-13, 2015) and plan accordingly. Supercrawl wants to make sure that festival-goers have convenient options and plenty of choice when it comes to getting here and getting around. Whether it’s a free festival shuttle or a free bike corral, a bike-share SoBi Superhub or the best place to park to get close to the heart of the action, festival organizers have you…

SUPERCRAWL + SOBI = SUPERHUB

SUPERCRAWL + SOBI = SUPERHUB

Supercrawl organizers believe that aside from walking, the best way to get to Supercrawl is by bicycle. As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainable transportation, Supercrawl is making it easier than ever to get to Hamilton's music and arts festival. In conjunction with SoBi Hamilton, a SoBi Superhub will be located in the parking lot just southwest of the James and Cannon intersection. (You'll find it marked with a blue pin on the Supercrawl 2015 festival map.) The Superhub location is fitting because it is located directly beside the Cannon Street Cycle Track, the three-kilometer protected two-way bike lane that…

SUPERCRAWL EXPANDS ITS FAMILY PROGRAMMING

Hamilton’s favourite urban festival — Supercrawl (September 11-13, 2015) — has established itself as a must-see event on the country’s festival circuit, and has been recognized as one of the Top 100 festivals and events in the province by Festivals & Events Ontario. A big part of that winning appeal is the festival’s attention to programming created with the intent of entertaining and engaging parents, children and creative spirits of all ages. Made possible by ArcelorMittal Dofasco, the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Family Zone features engaging family-friendly programming that showcases Hamilton’s abundant creative talent and wealth of community cultural organizations. CIRCUS ORANGE WILL SET FIRE TO THE NIGHT AT SUPERCRAWL 2015

A perennial favourite of Supercrawl audiences, Circus Orange returns to downtown Hamilton for the fourth straight year as part of Supercrawl 2015 (September 11-13, 2015). Returning audiences will doubtless prove beyond doubt that they are as big of a festival draw as most of Supercrawl’s headlining performers. Circus Orange’s conceptual performances have been a consistent Supercrawl highlight since they first brought their production spectacular to Supercrawl. A breathtaking blend of pyrotechnic punch, eye-popping special effects, graceful aerial artistry and gymnastic stunt work, the Hamilton-based performance company marries these elements into a singular entertainment experience that stops people in their tracks. In…

SUPERCRAWL UNVEILS WEALTH OF CONTEMPORARY ART

Entering its seventh season, Supercrawl (September 11-13, 2015) continues to inspire and delight lovers of arts and culture with the announcement of the exhibiting artists for this year’s urban arts and music festival. Supercrawl has always aimed to celebrate the freedom found on James Street North’s monthly Art Crawl, which has historically stepped outside of traditional gallery space and exhibited artwork that challenges expectations, generates curiosity about contemporary art and offers audiences entry to a spectrum of ideas. In 2015, Supercrawl builds on that tradition with a slate of festival programming that will challenge, confound and delight audiences. An eclectic…

INDEPENDENT FASHION IN SPOTLIGHT AT SUPERCRAWL

Supercrawl’s fashion showcases have been one of the event’s breakout successes in recent years, and inspired a larger production and dedicated Supercrawl Fashion Zone at last year’s festival. Crowds flocked to the zone to enjoy a steady stream of runway showcases and talks. This September, the Supercrawl Fashion Zone relocates to James between Barton and Murray, where enhanced production infrastructure will allow for a big-canvas makeover of the zone and three days of fashion — Friday, September 11 through Sunday, September 13 — on the Mohawk College Fashion Stage, with programming curated by the Supercrawl Fashion Committee. Audiences can expect…
