Design house Defective Collective (the brainchild of Kassandra Coleman and Ashley Bullock) is a creative space where two eccentric artists combine their talents and vision to create marble-ized chaos and beauty. Focusing on wearable dreamy art detailed with bulky knits, embroidery and colour. Coleman is based out of Toronto, she studied fashion at George brown and Humber College. Bullock is based out of Hamilton and studied fashion design at the Academy of Design. Heavily influenced by street art, yarnbombing and creating otherworldly items that should exist in our reality, the pair are constantly evolving artists able to see beyond the madness of the structured world.
At Supercrawl 2019, Defective Collective will be showcasing their “Commune” line, a collaborative grouping of pieces that have been passed through many hands to be detailed and repaired to complete their journey. Inspired by the citrus colours of the ’70s and produced using recycled materials and scraps from local designers. The designers’ goal is to keep the communal feeling of recycling and upcycling materials and the connection you feel from working together to create an inclusive community.
