BellaDance

Belly dance is actually referred to as raqs sharqi (Arabic for “Eastern Dance”), a Middle Eastern/North African art that is very culture-specific. The context in which belly dance is perceived is how the artist interprets the music. Unlike many other dance forms, the classically trained dancer is not creating a story. With the popularity of fusion belly dance artists, there is more emphasis on theatrical productions with stories and site specificity where they will use their surroundings. BellaDance Hamilton focuses on classic styles of Egyptian raqs sharqi and musical interpretation.
